Today I want to talk about something important…
Why is it so tough to quit nicotine?
Finding out how to quit smoking should be simple enough, right? I mean, there’s a ton of stuff out there that claims its the best. And based on the commercial I just saw for a ‘quit smoking drug’, 40-some MILLION Americans smoke, so you would think there’d be a quick solution, right?
Seems like Well, I can only speak from personal experience but if we think about the way smoking hooks you it’s pretty ingenious. You get used to routines: having a cigarette with your coffee in the morning, or when you’re driving in the car. How much do you smoke when you’re out at a bar?… I’m embarrassed to even answer that one. ![]()
But its not just the nicotine and other chemicals that get you hooked, is it?
But is there something more, Yeah I think there is.
It’s the repetition of holding something in your hand and the social aspect of a smoke break with coworkers (or with friends outside class.) That’s why the nicotine gum and the other stuff never worked for me…there were things about smoking I MISSED that I didn’t get with the gum or the nicotine patches.
But I could be wrong… what’s your thoughts on this? How will you feel when you finally do learn how to quit nicotine and be done with cigarettes for good?
